    The Neighbor and the Doll

    The Neighbor and the Doll

It was the early 1990’s when I had a paranormal experience.  My wife and I were newly married and we moved to an apartment complex in a suburb of a major city.  It was close to a job I had accepted and we were excited and eager to begin our lives.  Our daughter was almost two at the time and we couldn’t have been happier.

There are actually two parts to my paranormal story.  The first involves this clown doll my wife’s sister sent the baby.  It looked innocent enough at first but it got darker and creepier as time went on.  Wherever you were in the room, this doll always seemed to be looking at you.  It did not have those shaky googly eyes either, it’s eyes were glued on and supposed to look to the left.  That didn’t matter though, the eyes followed you wherever you were.  I hated it.  My daughter would often wake up crying and pointing at the doll.  My wife refused to get rid of it because her sister had sent it to us.  My mother came to stay with us that Christmas and was sleeping on the couch when she suddenly woke up and was screaming that the doll was looking at her from the other room.  She was terrified and I moved the doll so she could calm down.  I did not tell her anything about the doll before-hand.  She swore that thing was evil.  I was happy to get the affirmation that it wasn’t just me and somebody else felt it too.

How did we get rid of the doll you ask?  Well, we ended up giving the doll to our upstairs neighbor.  My wife was telling her about it and she wanted to see it.  My wife showed it to her and she liked it.  The neighbor asked her little boy if he wanted the doll, and he replied, “no mommy, that doll is scary.”  That just sold that lady and she took it.  Now you are probably a little confused at this point but I should explain that these neighbors were satanists.  A fact that my wife did not divulge right away because she was friends with the woman and didn’t want me to say or think anything bad about her.  Stupid, I know.

Anyways, this brings us to the second part of this story.  I don’t care what religion you are.  If you want to worship Satan go ahead, that’s your business, but if it starts to effect me or my family, then I care.

We hardly ever saw the woman’s husband or boyfriend, whatever he was, I don’t know.  She on the other hand was mostly friendly and sort of a party girl.  She would hang out and drink beers with us some nights.  she wasn’t mean or evil or anything like that.  She was for the most part polite, funny and friendly.

I will say that more than one occasion though we saw small drops of red liquid which I thought was blood leading up the stairs to their apartment.  We also were never in their apartment, she always came downstairs to ours.

Some strange things did happen in our apartment at times.  Unexplained noises and open cabinets, things going missing, you know that kind of stuff you just chalk up to, “huh, that’s weird,” and go on with your life.  It’s not until later you put two and two together.

So one night we saw all these strange people dressed in robes going into their apartment.  They were mostly black but some were in red and brown robes.  We saw at least eight or so people like that in the parking lot go upstairs to their apartment.  We figured there were at least twelve or more total.

I don’t know what they were doing but we heard Gregorian type chanting coming from upstairs.  It was really creepy and went on for hours.  It was just a normal week night and nothing special, but they were having some kind of ceremony or ritual.  That’s when my wife told me they were devil worshipers.  We had lived there for almost a month by this time.

They wouldn’t stop and it was very loud and accompanied my bangs, thuds and thumps.  We turned on the TV and were watching old black and white shows and movies.  The sounds didn’t stop and my wife was now freaking out and very scared.  A show ended and some religious show came on after.  We couldn’t find the remote to turn it off which was strange because it was on the nightstand next to the bed.  The minister on TV started to pray.  That gave me the idea we should pray too, which we did.  Neither of us are religious but we prayed that night.

I don’t know if it was just a coincidence but the chanting stopped immediately and the robed people all left.  We fell asleep.  In the morning we saw our neighbors packing their car.  My wife asked the girl what they were doing and she was very rude.  She said, “we are moving” in a sharp rude tone.  She didn’t even looked at us and just kept packing the car.  They were gone by that night and we never saw them again.

I’m not sure if it was our praying or if something happened up there that night to make them move so suddenly, without and indication prior to that.  Whatever it was, I thought good riddance to them and that damned doll.

  • Until You Meet One

    Until You Meet One

    Until You Meet One

It was the end of my senior year in high school.  We graduated and had a great time.  My friend and I decided to head down to Florida and stay with my grandma for a few days.  It was supposed to be a fun trip filled with good times and parties.  Which it was.

One night, we were heading down to South Beach for a good time.  We borrowed my grandmother’s car and it needed gas.  so I pulled into a gas station that was beside the road.  It was completely empty and I drove around the pump to line it up with the gas cap.  No one was there.

I opened the car door got out and put the dispenser in the car.  When I turned around there was a young girl standing right there in front of me.  She was only a couple of feet away.  There wasn’t a soul around before but she just appeared.  The only way she could have done this was by hiding behind the pump and slowly crawling to the other side as I pulled up so we couldn’t see her.

I was startled that she just appeared there.  She looked to be about 20 and was really skinny and dressed in out of date fashion.  She looked like she belonged in the sixties or seventies maybe.  She asked me for a ride and said she was desperate.  She was trying to get to her boyfriends house and wanted to go our direction, so I agreed.  Something didn’t feel right about this though, I mean aside from the fact this chick appeared out of nowhere.  I asked to look in her bag to make sure she wasn’t carrying a gun or something and wanted to hijack my grandma’s car.  My grandma was tough and you didn’t want to get on her bad side or experience her wrath.

The young girl smiled and willingly opened her bag.  No gun but her belongings were all just, old.  That is the only way to explain it.  The stuff in her bag had old looking labels and nozzles and caps.  Not like the stuff today, it looked like items from the seventies or something, even the designs on the bottles.  I still didn’t think too much about it and let her in the car.

While driving, she kept talking about crazy things, like dying and being killed.  She told us that we were lucky to be alive and we should cherish our lives being so young and all.  She was really freaking us both out.  My friend was so creeped out by this girl that he sat on half of the seat and watched her the whole time.  The look on his face was priceless as I could just tell she terrified him.

I can’t even describe how creepy this girl was.  Her voice would even cut in and out as she spoke, like a telephone that loses its reception for a second and comes back and as the signal is lost you miss a word or two.  It was so weird.  She was extremely morbid.

I am kind of ashamed at what I did next but I have to live with it.  We came to a train and while we sat waiting for the train, the girl said my name and told me that I had to be careful and I could die at any time.  She said those exact words as she touched the back and side of my neck.  Her hands were ice cold, even colder than that.  I freaked out and told the girl that we had to turn around and I would have to let her out here.  We couldn’t wait for this long train even though we needed to go in that direction.  I just couldn’t take it anymore.  She nodded and gave a quick “heh” sound like a one sound laugh and exited the car.

I started to make a three point turn and my friend watched her as we turned around.  As I straightened out the car he screams, “she’s gone!”  I said something like “I know,” and good thing.  He said, “no I mean she disappeared!”  I questioned him in disbelief, “you  mean she vanished?”  He said, “yes she disappeared into thin air.”  He watched her do it.  I didn’t see that, and figured it was dark and his eyes just played tricks on him.

We continued on our vacation and enjoyed ourselves.  Years later my friend called me on the phone to tell me something interesting he saw on TV.  He was watching one of those ghost shows that come on around Halloween time.  One of the true scary stories featured on the show was about a young girl who hitchhiked along that same road we were travelling on that night years before.  Usually young guys would pick her up and she would tell them she was trying to get to her boyfriend’s house.  She died in a car accident in the early seventies going to her boyfriend’s place and she was always seen hitchhiking on that stretch of road.  Everything was the same about the story for us except she appeared to us at a gas station.

I didn’t before but I do believe in ghosts now.  I would say to all the skeptics out there who don’t believe me, I guess you won’t believe in ghosts, until you meet one.

    Disappearances

    Disappearances

This has all happened over the last couple of months.  To give a little background, I live by myself.  My husband passed away years ago, my children are all out of the house and even my dog has passed.

Life has been quiet and mostly uneventful.  I am retired and spend my days being quite active within the groups I belong too, playing cards with friends or just resting.  I have earned that right.

Recently, I had a dream of my deceased husband.  i was sleeping in my chair, both in real life and the dream.  He walks in like nothing, mind you he has been dead for 16 years, and tells me to follow him.  He looks young and is dressed in his uniform.  I tell him how old I am and he nods and says, “I know.”  He gestures for me to follow him and I am happy to do so.  We walk out of the house and down the street.  I ask where we are going but he doesn’t say.  He just flashes that charming smile of his.  I notice there is a light in the distance which is getting brighter.  Then I wake up from a huge bolt of lightning causing extra loud thunder.  It was a terrible storm.  I was disappointed and tried to go back to sleep to continue the dream, but it was ended.  After I was more awake the dream frightened me.  I was happy during the dream but my conscious mind became fearful.  Was it a premonition of something bad, or even my own death?

Anyhow, I’m not sure if the dream ties in to this but several strange things have happened around the house lately.  I have begun to hear strange noises, unexplained sounds that I have never heard throughout the house, which I have occupied for 15 years now.  I’ll hear booms and things falling and cracking, but nothing is ever there or had fallen when I enter the room to check out the noise.  Sometimes I hear whispering or low talking in like a slithery voice, almost snake like.  It will get louder as I approach the room I think it is coming from, but when I enter; it stops and nothing.

One Friday I came home after a particularly busy and tiring week.  I am going to rest and just watch TV all weekend.  I am not going anywhere.  I came home and put my keys where I always do on my dresser.  The weekend goes by and I am ready to go out Monday morning.  I go to grab my keys and the key ring is bent and the key is off the ring and under a jewelry box partially sticking out.  Now this was a extra thick ring.  I couldn’t even bend it back with pliers.  It wasn’t just a little bent, it was bent in half!  Nobody was in my house all weekend.  It may seem like a small thing but it was impossible.

Another time as I slept.  my wedding ring which I still wear was off of my finger.  I couldn’t find it anywhere.  It just seem to disappear off my finger while I slept.  I searched the whole house and nothing.  I knew I went to sleep with it on and when I awoke, it was gone.  A few days go by and I get the urge to check a plastic bin.  Now I had looked in this bin several times, emptied the contents and shook it out.  There was no ring.  I almost didn’t even bother to look because I was sure it wasn’t in there.  My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to check it out.  The ring was sitting on top of the papers in the bin.  It was just sitting there.  I didn’t have to look, it was just in plain sight.  I know it was not there before, but there it was.

Similarly I lost a bill that was due.  I looked for two weeks or more for this bill which should have been on the desk where it belonged.  I finally ended up going to the office to pay this bill.  After it was paid, I found it lying right in the middle of the garage; right in the open!  I had walked through that path multiple times over those weeks and it was not there until I didn’t need it anymore.

Oddly, my neighbor told me she experienced a similar occurrence during the same time.  She knows nothing about what I am going through, she just volunteered this information.  I wanted to tell her my stories but thought better of it and I did not tell her.  She said she had several papers in one envelope which she addressed and was ready to mail.  The envelope disappeared and she couldn’t find it.  Then weeks later all of a sudden there it was.  Only now each of the items contained within the envelope each had their own envelope!  She now had several envelopes each holding one of the papers that were all in the original envelope.  What was even more bewildering to her is that each of the envelopse were also addresses properly and every one of them was in her own handwriting.  Weird right?  She is not crazy or even eccentric for that matter.  I think the only reason she told me this was because it was bothering her so much.  I can understand that.

I have an antique mail desk which sits by my front door.  It has a compartment with a door that folds down.  I use it to keep odds and ends in there to keep the house looking tidy.  One day I go to get a pen and the door is unhinged on one side.  The screws were completely removed from the hinge.  Not one of the three screws were anywhere to be found.  Sawdust remained behind like they were unscrewed but the screws were gone.

There is much more to this then I am telling you, but I am too afraid to even recall a couple of the other things which had happened.  I don’t know if someone is somehow getting in to my house or if it is paranormal or what.  I just know that I am in my right mind and something external is going on here.  It has gotten so bad that I am putting my house up for sale and am leaving.

  • Eyes Behind the Door

    Eyes Behind the Door

    Eyes Behind the Door

This is my true scary story.  I was watching Netflix with my husband late one evening.  I was tired and kept drifting off.  My husband has this annoying habit of waking me up by making loud noises like coughing or banging his glass on the table when I start to pass out.  After a couple of times I snapped at him and went off to bed.  I laid down and started to relax for a good night sleep.  I heard the bedroom door creak softly and just tried to ignore it.  It bothered me though because it wasn’t long enough to be wide open like my husband was coming in so I looked up and tried to focus my eyes.  The door was slightly ajar and the room and the hallway were dark, but my eyes had adjusted enough that I could just make out a pair of eyes looking through the crack of the door, peering at me.  I couldn’t make out anything else but the eyes.  I assumed it was my husband messing with me because I snapped at him.  The only thing was the eyes were only at about three to three and a half feet.  Like he was on his knees or bending over.  I told him I was in no mood and to go finish the movie and laid back down.   I closed my eyes and tried to ignore him but I just couldn’t let go of that feeling of being stared at.  Then the door creaked again.  I looked up and saw the eyes again this time the door was open a little more and he was just staring.  I told him to stop and leave me alone and closed my eyes again.  Almost immediately I heard my husband laugh out loud, and he was downstairs still watching the movie.  I got chills through my entire body when I realized the eyes were not his.  I sat up and looked again afraid of what I might see.  The eyes were gone.  I turned on the light and ran down to tell my husband.  He swears it wasn’t him and it couldn’t have been because there was not enough time for him to make it down the stairs.  Also, I would have heard him on the stairs.  We searched the entire house and came up with nothing.  I didn’t sleep that night until almost daybreak.  It still creeps me out and even though my sister says it was probably just my imagination, I still think it was real because I saw the eyes twice, and felt the stare upon me, and I heard the door creak.  I am convinced that someone or something was watching me that night.
